I recently posted a video spoof called Baracka Flocka, in which a guy that looks like President Obama raps to Wacka Flocka’s “Hard In The Paint!” The spoof is pretty dayum funny and has been making its rounds on the Internet. However, Waka Flocka doesn’t seem to like it and feels that its disrespectful to the Prez, because it promotes certain racial stereotypes? Waka stated, to the New York Times, “That they used it o be so sarcastic, it was almost a form of disrespect.” Waka’s mother, Debbie Antney, further stated, “That’s not a positive image for us, period, as African Americans, where we came from, where we’re going today.”
Apparently, Waka Flocka’s mother was also trying to have the video removed, from WorldStarHipHop.com, which is known for promoting stereotypical black images, like fried chicken eating contests and soft-core porn, but was unsuccessful.
The comedian, James Davis, who starred as President Obama in the spoof, had this to say about the controversy:
“I can speak to the educated black guy and the hood black guy. The fact that we can come out and put on a full production like this in an area where there’s gang violence, in what people would consider the hood, is important to me. He’s a come-up story, in the biggest way possible. That’s what a lot of rap is about, grinding hard, making it from nothing to something.”
